Sunday School is an integral part of the St. Thomas' Cathedral. Children at the Sunday School grow in the knowledge of God with the help of committed teachers who take keen interest to teach and instruct children in the Word of God. Over the years, Sunday School children were taught and moulded by dedicated teachers like Mrs. Janet Roberts, Rajiv & Thelma Joseph, Sabrina Siga, Rekha Joshi, Rajeev Joseph, Cecily George, Jyotsna Dyvashirvadam.
Sunday School at present is conducted by a group of dedicated teachers under the leadership of Mrs. Uma Moses every Sunday while the regular sung worship service is in progress. Children of various age groups beginning from 3 years upwards to 16 years
attend the Sunday School classes. Teachers faithfully minister the Word of God to these young minds and aim at
imparting spiritual and moral values through the Scriptures. Sunday School serves as a platform for children
to congregate together and get closer to God.
Vision and Mission
To enable the
children grow closer to God, to gain knowledge from the Bible and translate
these noble ideals for the betterment of society, following His example and
adhering to the Kingdom principles.
The purpose of the Sunday School:
The principles and philosophies
stated in the Bible are imparted to the students through songs, stories and
activities such that they imbibe faith in God and live their lives following
the examples of great men and women of prayer as depicted in the Bible. Through
praise and worship and prayer sessions, children are taught to communicate with
Almighty God. Learning the Bible and memorising the verses seek to direct
their minds to follow the right path in life.
The Sunday School seeks to make
the Lord Jesus personal and real to the children through prayer and faith,
making them familiar with His good works, signs and miracles, teaching them to
adopt the Kingdom principles that Christ adhered to. It thus aspires towards
the spiritual growth and evolution of the children entrusted to its
stewardship.
Principles of social justice
and awareness are taught to the children through outreach activities like
visits to orphanages, shelters for street children, homes for the physically
challenged and the less fortunate sections of society.
The children are made familiar
with the history of the Church movement through illustrations of lives of great
missionaries in India and abroad, the ancient sanctuary in which they worship,
its traditions and inspire them to grow up to be worthy disciples in their
adult lives, to be the future pillars of this holy house of worship.
